As your School Committee member, I will prioritize the real issues
Creating a joyful, positive, inclusive, and supportive environment – We should create an atmosphere whereby students and teachers enjoy learning and teaching.
Mental and emotional well-being – COVID-19 has created many issues regarding depression, anxiety, school avoidance behaviors, and other mental health issues. We must provide support to address these extraordinary educational challenges.
Equity of opportunity – We must provide early guidance and equitable support across the board from vocational training to Advanced Placement courses.
Encouraging participation and eliminating fees – We need to create more free after-school activities. Sports fees, user fees, and busing fees discourage participation, create financial hardship, and need to be discontinued.
Community Learning Environments – I will open closed doors and replace top-down directives with genuine open dialogue and problem-solving. Every student, educator, and family needs to feel valued.
COVID from a Teacher’s Perspective - We need to emphasize being outdoors when possible, and create a multidimensional long-range plan for the different age groups. Teachers can do in-person or remote, but not both at the same time.
Diversity in Teaching - Every child should see a faculty person in the school this looks like them. We can do a much better job of keeping teachers of BIPOC (Black Indigenou People of Color).
